Enjoy a week of beautiful and challenging hiking trails on a unique island in the mediterranean sea. The island is full of beautiful nature and historical villages en the most rewarding view points. Elba has a surface of 224 square kilometers and offers a lot of diversity in landscapes. 

Imagine starting your day with a great view over the sea and a white beach and just an hour later you'll be surrounded by vineyards and during the hike you'll be looking at the top of the mighty Monte Capanne. Of course later on we will make our way op to the Cima of this moutain, where you can enjoy an amazing view over the whole island and on a clear day many more. Don't forget to buy yourself a lovely cappuccino and a homemade chocolate cake at the little mountain bar this is maybe the best chocolate cake you'll ever tried before!

Program

Even though Elba is a relatively small island, the high amount of hiking kilometers will ensure that every day of the week you'll be exploring a different part of the island. We will bring you everyday to a different part and guide you through the amazing trail of the famous GTE (grande traversata Elbana). Grande Traversata Elbana (GTE) This is a trail of 49,6 kilometers that starts at the North East part of Elba and takes you all the way to the South Western part, you will cross the whole island. This trail we will do in over 4 days sometimes we will add a few extra kilometers to make sure that you won't miss out on the most beautiful parts and villages of the island. With our long history and experience on the island our guide will lead and will show you the best of Elba and the most beautiful trails.

Extended version of GTE hike holiday.

Saturday: Arrival day:
Today is the check-in day, after this you'll have all the time to acclimate. Today there is no program. If you would like a small warm-up trail there is a beautiful 8km hike available just around the campsite. In the evening there will be a welcome dinner prepared by us to meet the guide and the other hikers.

Sunday: Cavo - Castello del Volterraio
After a nice breakfast and the prepared lunch we start on the North East side of the island in the old mine village Cavo. Here we will start with the first part of the G.T.E in the direction of the mountain village Rio nell'Elba. On this day we directly make our first altitude meter. After continuing our hike during the afternoon we will finish the day on a spectacular way with an aperitif at the view point at the old fortress Castello del Volterraio. met uitzicht bij het eeuwenoude fort Castello del Volterraio.

Monday: Porto Azzurro - Camping Lacona
The second hiking day we start in one of the cozies villages of the island: Porto Azzurro. With his lovely harbor and cozy squares we head off in the North Western direction to reach the G.T.E path again. On this day you will start in the lively area of Porto Azzurro but the further in to the day the less inhabitants we will see and the more forest will appear. Through the via de Serra del Literno we end the day again on a fantastic view point: Monte Fonza on the south side of the island. From here we will return to camping Lacona by following the coastline.

Tuesday: Restday
Today we will give the legs a well deserved break. Enjoy laying on the beach or take a refreshing dive in the pool. Still in for an activity? We offer also many watersports like stand up paddling or kayaking.

Wednesday: Passo del Monumento - Marina di Campo – Monte Perone
From the campsite we bring you to the starting point of the 3th hiking day. We start the day with the beautiful forests of the Valle del Literno. This day will be a very challenging day regarding altitude meters, directly after the forests we will climb over 400 meters to the beautiful picnic spot of the Monte Perone. Here we take a little break, before we go to the foot of the famous Monte Capanne. Afterwards we follow the path down through the village of Sant Piero to Marina di Campo. For who wants there is the option to take a refreshing dive in the sea or enjoy a well deserved drink at one of the many terraces.

Thursday: Monte Perone - Monte Capanne - Pomonte.
The Big Final day, Le Grande Finale! During this last day of the hiking holiday we leave from the monte Perone and will hike up the Monte Capanne, this will be a challenging climb where we have to climb over rocks and will have steal cables leading us over the climb to reach the top of the Monte Capanne. During this part you will enjoy the most beautiful views of the island and on a clear day it will even be possible to see the entire Toscane archipelago and Corsica! There is also the option on top of the mountain to buy a refreshment and don't miss out on the lovely home made cakes! Now the highest point of the island is reached the rest of the journey will go downwards. We walk through the beautiful nature parc Nationale Arcipelago Toscano in the south western way in direction of Pomonte where the GTE will end at sea level. For who would like to reward himself there is the option to walk down to the sea and join our snorkeling tour that will bring you to a shipwreck from 1972. 
Nu het hoogste punt van het eiland is bereikt, gaan we alleen nog maar afdalen. We lopen door de prachtige natuur van Parco Nationale Arcipelago Toscano in zuidwestelijke richting naar Pomonte waar de wandeltocht op zeeniveau eindigt. Voor wie zichzelf wil belonen, heeft de mogelijkheid om tot onder zeeniveau af te dalen en deel te nemen aan het wrak snorkelen.

Friday: option to make an extra hike
After 4 days of hiking we can imagine that your feet and legs are looking forward to some rest. Today is a day off, but for the ones that are not able to get enough of the hikes on Elba we offer another path close to Capoliveri a part that you haven't been to yet. Here you can make a guideless tour but with a detailed map.

How do I reach Elba?

The fastest way to reach Elba is by flying to Pisa and taking the train.
To look for the best tickets we recommend to go to the direct website of the airline company.

• Transavia: vliegt naar Pisa vanaf Schiphol en Rotterdam/Den Haag airport
• Ryanair offers many flights to Pisa.: vliegt naar Pisa vanaf Eindhoven, Weeze (Dusseldorf), Charleroi (Brussel)

Please notice that when you book your flight you won't arrive later as 17:00 on Pisa airport. Otherwise you have to stay over for a night in Pisa. If so we work directly together with the Safe Stay hostel in Pisa what is reachable by foot from the airport and offers great comfortable rooms.
From Pisa Airport. The last direct train is leaving at 16:40. The last train with a transfer to the bus in Campiglia Marittima is leaving at 19:30. The last boat is leaving Piombino harbor at 22:30.
From Elba: The earliest that you could fly from Pisa Airport is 08:28. To be able to be on time for this flight you have to take the boat at 05:00.

From the airport in Pisa there is a good train connection to Piombino Marritima, from where the boat to Elba departs. We pick you up in the port of Portoferraio where the boat arrives. If you are coming with more people it could be an option to rent a car at Pisa airport this could be cheaper as many train tickets.
Cost train return ticket: €20 / €30.
Cost ferry ticket return €25 / €35 (By foot. With a car will be around €70 or €100 return).

After you made your booking you will receive a very clear and extended explanation of how to travel from Pisa Airport to Elba. Included with the ferry the trip may take about 3 hours.
